Trane Sets a New Benchmark in Data Center Cooling with New Sintesis™ eXcellent GVAF Chiller Models
Engineered for high density applications, the expanded GVAF chiller portfolio boasts higher capacities, wider operating maps, and boosts efficiency to reduce energy demand from critical digital infrastructures.
Brussels, Belgium, April 13, 2026 - Trane®, a leading global provider of thermal management solutions and services and a brand of Trane Technologies, has introduced new high-capacity models within its Sintesis™ eXcellent GVAF air-cooled chiller platform. With capacities now reaching up to 2.5MW and widened operating map capable of delivering ultra-reliable cooling up to 54°C ambient, the extended GVAF range provides large industrial and data center operators with more high-efficiency design choices, greater potential for free cooling and higher performance at a smaller footprint.
As data centers face increasing rack densities, rising ambient temperatures and tighter energy constraints, operators need solutions that deliver stable capacity, predictable performance and high efficiency under variable conditions. The new models in the Trane GVAF platform was engineered specifically to address these needs, delivering strengthened full‑load performance, high‑capacity free cooling and rapid‑restart capability to facilities where uptime and stability are essential.
“At Trane, we are designing the future of data‑center cooling. These facilities rely on systems that deliver certainty — certainty of uptime, certainty of efficiency, and certainty of long‑term performance,” said Lauri Salmia, Applied Portfolio Manager at Trane. “With higher capacities and a wider operating map, the upgraded GVAF platform reflects our engineering strength, deep application expertise, and engineered‑to‑order capability, enabling project‑specific solutions delivered at scale.”
Expanded operating map and strengthened performance
The new GVAF 505 and GVAF 550 models extend the upper end of the Sintesis™ eXcellent GVAF range to 2.5 MW. The operating map has been widened to 54°C ambient, enabling reliable cooling under extreme conditions, supporting design flexibility for hyperscale, colocation, and industrial applications. All models are optimised for ultra‑low‑GWP R1234ze, with optional CORE™ condensers available to further increase heat‑rejection effectiveness, capacity per square metre and full‑load performance.
These advancements offer operators:
- Stronger efficiency at higher ambient temperatures
- Increased free‑cooling hours throughout the year
- Enhanced site layout options through more capacity in a compact footprint.
“The Trane GVAF platform has been proven across hundreds of data centers and other mission‑critical applications. Its robustness and efficiency improvements present strong retrofit opportunities with short payback periods,” said Lauri Salmia.
Manufactured in Europe, backed by in-region R&D and direct service network
All Sintesis™ eXcellent GVAF units are manufactured and tested at Trane Technologies’ plant in France. The test centre includes a 5,000 m³ climate chamber capable of simulating ambient conditions from –25°C to +55°C with precise temperature and humidity control. The facility validates full‑scale free-cooling chillers and heat pumps across all operating modes, supporting new‑product development and customer‑specific performance requirements.
All units are supported by the industry’s widest sales and service network in Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Australia and New Zealand, providing engineering expertise, commissioning support and lifecycle optimisation for mission‑critical installations.
