Keeping your cool – how Trane Rental Services steps up for host of cold storage needs

When people think rental, they typically think of emergency situations - the freezer broke down, the new chiller didn’t arrive … when you’re really up against it and production is under threat, rental is an obvious quick fix.

Trane Rental Services has come to the rescue of countless customers who are faced with a crisis. Our massive pan-EMEA fleet of containerized cold storage solutions – and decades of technical expertise – means we can quickly get you back up and running, whatever the emergency.

But rental cold storage is not just for catastrophes! Trane Rental looks on cooling (and heating) as services, not products. This approach means Trane rental experts always analyse the whole picture in coming up with innovative and cost-effective solutions.

New product development: production process testing
Rental is clearly a great option when the need is seasonal or temporary, or when a new process or product needs to be tested. This is how Trane Rental got involved with a long-established animal feed manufacturer in Portugal. The company was working on a new granulated product for cattle but found that during the new manufacturing process, the product itself was reaching high temperatures and post-manufacture storage was an issue. Although most animal feed can be easily stored at ambient temperatures, the new product was susceptible to contamination by worms unless it was cooled down.

Trane Rental team visited the factory and then recommended two large, 6m Container Fresh & Frozen (CFF) units. These units are highly energy-efficient with an advanced temperature management control system that delivers extremely precise temperature control +/- 0.25°C in chilled mode and +/- 1°C in frozen mode. The company experimented with different temperature ranges and found that storing the product in temperatures ranging from -10°C to -18°C was the ideal solution.

Fast-tracking expansion
Rented containerized cold storage is also a great means of fast-tracking capacity expansion. This proved a godsend for a refugee centre in Germany that urgently needed to support a large influx of Ukrainians following the start of the war in 2022. The centre, which provides hundreds of meals a day for refugees, was facing unprecedented demand. Within 24 hours of receiving the initial call for help, Trane Rental was able to install a large 40-foot Magnum Plus containerized cold store at the centre, enabling them to ramp up capacity very quickly. The initial rental period was for just four months but, with a continuing need to support Ukrainian refugees, the rental period has now been extended indefinitely.

Rental also enabled an Italian food and pharmaceutical ingredients producer to quickly expand production with a “superfreezer” solution. The company, which specialises in probiotics and live cultures, stores large quantities of high-value, semi-finished product at very low temperatures of - 50°C. Temperature control is vital because if temperatures rise above - 50°C, products are rendered unusable. Trane Rental supplied two 20’ “superfreezer” containers to augment the existing cold storage warehousing facilities. Now the company is embarking on a second phase of the project with a third 20’ container being installed nearby.

Keeping up with innovation
Then of course there are the cost benefits of a rental solution. Rental makes optimal use of capital and cash flow – and avoids the need to invest in extra capacity when it may only be needed for a short period. When the need is short-term or seasonal, it’s certainly more cost-effective to secure a temporary rental unit with cost allocated to operations rather than a fixed asset which will depreciate in value.

Trane’s EaaSY contracts allow businesses to act nimbly as well as benefit from the very latest technology. Companies can bask in the security of regular maintenance and a highly reliable, dedicated 24/7 support service. Trane Rental’s flexible, modern and efficient fleet can provide solutions to any cold storage need – from +40⁰C to -70°C – providing an industry-leading solution whatever the requirement. Delivery is always as fast as possible – and can even be same day if products are in stock. Trane’s decades of experience in cooling solutions mean you’re partnering with an expert who can leverage specialist technical know-how and ensure every project is executed in the safest, fastest and most professional manner.
