Trane Announces Sintesis™ Balance, Multi-pipe Unit for Efficient, Sustainable, and Simultaneous Cooling and Heating

New Trane multi-pipe cooling and heating systems bring substantial efficiency increase compared to oil and gas boilers, market-leading performance and widest operating maps

Brussels, August 24, 2020 - Trane®, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Trane Technologies, announced today the Sintesis™ Balance CMAF, latest addition to its innovative portfolio of multi-pipe units for simultaneous cooling and heating. The fourth generation of Trane’s air-sourced multi-pipe units raises the bar in sustainable, efficient and flexible delivery of cooling and heating in buildings.

Simultaneous heating and cooling by one single unit eliminates the need for separate boiler and chiller systems to fulfil buildings’ cooling needs in the summer, heating in the winter or both throughout the year. This offers building owners of multifunctional facilities like office buildings, hospitals, theatres and hotels reduced investment costs, better use of floor space and lower total operating expenses while significantly improving the sustainability of their operations.

The Trane CMAF uses renewable and recovered energy for the production of hot water and can replace the existing fossil-fuel boiler and chiller system to deliver both chilled water and hot water for the entire building with no direct greenhouse gas emissions. This contributes to decarbonisation of buildings and creating better air quality in and around the building.

The new Sintesis Balance CMAF models are substantially more efficient when compared to oil and gas boilers. CMAF offers Total Efficiency Ratio (TER) of up to 8.2 and Coefficient of Performance (COP) of up to 3,35 – highest levels of all air-sourced scroll multi-pipe units available on the European market. The expanded operating map allows CMAF to deliver hot water with temperatures up to 68 degrees Celsius. The heating capabilities of the unit also makes it a very good choice for building applications in climatic regions where ambient air temperatures go down to minus 18 degrees Celsius.

"Trane works closely with builders and building owners to create energy efficient and more climate friendly buildings. Today, half of the energy used in buildings is on heating and cooling, and most of the European commercial buildings are heated with gas or oil boilers. The CMAF is an example of product development that can create a sustainable heating sector, contribute to mitigating climate change and reducing carbon footprint. As new and existing building today will be in use for decades to come, by introducing solutions like the CMAF we clear the pathway to reducing direct use of fossil fuels while also bringing significant savings to the building owners’ bottom lines.", said Jose La Loggia, president of Trane in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Louis Rompre, portfolio manager at Trane Europe added "Sinstesis Balance CMAF builds on over a century of Trane’s expertise in creating efficient chillers and brings this competency to the heating market. Complementing our full portfolio of chillers, heat pumps and multi-pipe units, the CMAF was designed as an innovative, emission-free heating and cooling system that leverages renewable technology, full heat recovery and repurposing of that heat. Additionally it builds on the renowned and proven Sintesis™ platform and many of the components and technologies with proven reliability records."

Additional key features of the Trane Sintesis Balance CMAF system are:

Trane Adaptive Refrigerant System™, a proprietary technology, which automatically optimizes refrigerant charge and sub-cooling in each operating mode and temperature conditions, delivering additional performance and efficiency gains.
The fully electric driven CMAF multi-pipe unit doesn’t generate any direct greenhouse gas emissions and offers up to 350 percent higher efficiency compared to most gas boilers when delivering hot water for comfort heating systems.
Configurability with three acoustic packages and efficiency levels to meet different buildings’ application requirements.
New generation of Trane controls technology – Tracer SymbioTM 800 controller features advanced algorithms ensuring smooth, reliable operation with the lowest cost of ownership. In addition, it also offers six arbitration choices to optimize performances in a given application.
Tracer Symbio™ 800 with TD7 AdaptiView™ touchscreen provides facility managers with a user-friendly control of the unit. The controller allows them to remotely manage and respond to a variety of conditions and maintain efficient operation with various pre-programmed operating modes.
Trane Sintesis Balance aligns with Trane Technologies’ 2030 sustainability aspirations, and the commitment to reduce customers’ carbon emissions by one gigaton – equivalent to the annual emissions of Italy, France and the United Kingdom combined.
