Challenge
Temporary cooling was needed for a very large building at one of the busiest hospitals in central London while new heat pump chillers were on order. The building is located right next to the heart attack unit with very limited space. Because the critical care unit needs to be fully accessible at all times, the TraneUK Rental team had to be very innovative in devising a solution.
Solution
Trane Rental UK determined that optimal comfort cooling levels would be provided by installing two Sintesis Advantage CXAF190 units, each providing 640kW capacity.
The design of the Sintesis Advantage chillers and heat pumps offers low sound levels without compromising operating efficiciency. This represented another benefit for the healthcare environment.
The team recommended building a mezzanine which would allow one of the chillers to be located above a plant room and thus limit the amount of space needed to position the chillers. To ensure access to the Critical Care centre was not obstructed, two sets of hoses are being installed up the side of a five-storey building and across the roof to another building where the hoses could be connected to the chilled water circuit.
Results
The hospital is fully satisfied with the Trane Rental solution which has provided reliable comfort cooling for one of the most important wards of the facility. The rental team installation solution keeps easy and safe access to the needed buildings which was another critical requirement.
