Challenge
A university hospital in the Czech Republic was carrying out important renovation work at its blood storage bank and needed a temporary cold storage solution for blood containers during the refurbishment period. The hospital also required very precise temperature control and monitoring which could be connected to its central measurement system.
Trane Rental stepped in to provide a robust cold store solution.
Solution
The Czech Trane Rental team worked closely with the hospital facility manager to determine the exact temperatures needed and the capacity required. Following discussions, Trane Rental Services recommended installing a 20’ SuperFreezer capable of securing reliable, very low temperature cold storage required for the blood bank.
The hospital authorities also needed to ensure that they could monitor the storage temperatures with log capture on the hospital’s central measurement system. This requirement was solved by placing temperature sensors from the central system onto the inner walls of the cold storage unit. As an added security measure, the cold store power connection can be easily connected to a backup power source.
Results
The project has gone extremely well. Shortly after the first SuperFreezer was installed, the hospital requested a bigger additional unit; the Czech Trane Rental team provided a second 40’ cold store unit.
The Trane SuperFreezer is regularly used to provide reliable cold storage solutions for products such as COVID vaccines and other sensitive medical items. The super-insulated refrigerated container is an ultra-low temperature solution offering flexibility from -10°C to -70°C temperature control.
