A prominent retail bank in the UK was conducting a comprehensive assessment of its headquarters, a prestigious office building highly regarded in the City of London.
The building caters to a large number of employees and visitors on a daily basis. The bank's property managers recognized the urgent need to address the aging chillers that served the vital data center. While the bank awaited the delivery of new replacements, Trane Rental Services promptly offered a practical solution to ensure uninterrupted cooling capacity during the interim period.
Solution
The customer's building situation in a historic and densely-populated area called for both the lowest possible noise emissions and a dependable, energy-efficient performance. Trane Rental Services installed and commissioned two Sintesis CGAF air-cooled chillers providing a total cooling capacity of 400 kW.
To further mitigate noise levels, the chillers were enclosed in a custom-made acoustic shell. Additionally, as a precautionary measure, a third chiller was rented as a standby option. This comprehensive solution ensured that the customer's system consistently received the required cooling load, thus optimizing its performance and minimizing the risk of overheating.
Considering the property's location in a bustling, densely-populated area, the installation was executed over the weekend to minimize any disruption.
Results
The bank expressed total satisfaction with Trane Rental's solution, especially given the low noise units' suitability for a sensitive environment within a high-rise office building.
Trane's CGAF rental chillers proved to be a game-changer, offering multiple energy-saving features such as high efficiency at both full load and part load, with variable volume scroll compressor technology and variable speed fans. The integrated free cooling system also significantly reduced operating costs.
The compact footprint of the chillers makes them an excellent choice for both retrofit installations and new builds. The CGAF offers three efficiency versions (SE, HE and XE) which can be coupled with three low-noise packages (SN, LN, XLN).
The customer enjoyed peace of mind knowing that their vital server room would consistently maintain temperature stability and optimum performance throughout the entire three-month rental period.
