The need for seasonal cooling is one of the most common reasons why companies rent chillers on a temporary basis rather than make a costly capital investment. If you’re only going to be using equipment for half the year or less, why fork out on inventory that’s redundant for the rest of the year?

And more often than not, it’s a pretty basic requirement: Summers are hot and we need to keep our people, products or processes cool! Examples of Trane Rental seasonal cooling solutions abound.

In the south of France, a food logistic platform needed rental backup to support its chillers with temperatures of -8/-4°C during the summer . The main requirement was for the system to be able to provide low temperature cooling during the summer high peaks. Trane's solution was to provide a rental air-cooled chiller that would operate in tandem with three contained cold store units. The rental system provided the perfect environment for preserving food products.

In Vienna, one of the city’s top hotels needed an emergency cooling system during the summer months to replace their broken-down chiller. Trane Rental was able to quickly install an air-cooled chiller supplying 200 kW comfort cooling covering the different area needs of the hotel. The installed chiller combined high efficiency with low sound levels – an important requirement in the hospitality industry – with no compromise of reliability. The system was installed for four months securing reliable and healthy comfort cooling to guests and staff during the entire summer season.

In Switzerland, a factory needed an additional 850kW cooling during the hot season to secure its manufacturing process. The customer planned their rental of the RTAF245 system for the summer months as a robust backup in case their existing system failed in any way.

Climate change & extreme weather
But there are also instances when “seasonal” need has not even been envisaged. In France, a sudden heat wave threatened operations at a COVID-19 vaccination centre. It was an emergency situation and the customer needed an immediate rental solution to help deal with the sudden rise in temperatures. The solution – a 100 kW rooftop unit – was deployed quickly to ensure the centre could continue to provide a comfortable and healthy environment for health workers as well as the public coming in to be vaccinated.

Climate change has also had an adverse impact on manufacturing processes for many companies. In Holland, a developer of vegetable proteins was relying on groundwater to provide cooling down to 7°C however summer ambient temperatures have risen to such a degree that food products were at risk of getting spoiled. The solution was Trane Rental water-cooled chiller coupled with a food-grade, shell and tube 750KW heat exchanger.
