Challenge

One of the biggest military bases in Europe carries out regular annual maintenance to its food storage warehouse and relies on temporary cooling solutions to keep the food and beverage stored at -35°C.

The entire base relies on the enormous warehouse for its supplies so it’s vital that produce is kept sufficiently cool. Trane Rental Services has a long-term relationship with the army contractor responsible for facility management at the base and has already provided the needed temporary cold storage solution during maintenance carried out in the last two years.

Solution

For the 2023 operation, the local Trane Rental team installed:
• 3 x air-cooled water low-temperature chillers
• 9 x 50kW low-temperature air handling units
• 3 x 500kVA generators

The set-up provides a total cooling capacity of 200kW. The key challenge this year was installing the air handling units on high shelving inside the building – a tricky operation that required careful installation.

Results

The provided cold storage installation ensures that it’s “business as usual” for the thousands of soldiers who live and work at the base. The rental period is for six weeks. The customer chose Trane Rental for a third time thanks to our technical competence and availability of the ideal units for the required application.
