Trane Expands R290 Portfolio with ARIES N, High-Efficiency Air-Cooled Chillers with Scroll Compressors
Thanks to a highly engineered design, combined with thermodynamic properties of R290 refrigerant, the new air-cooled chiller can operate in extreme conditions setting new standards in performance and application flexibility for comfort and process cooling.
Brussels, Belgium, June 13, 2025 - Trane®, a leading global provider of indoor climate control solutions and a brand of Trane Technologies, has introduced the next generation of their ARIES N range, a series of air-cooled chillers featuring R290 refrigerant and scroll compressors. Designed to deliver strong energy efficiency, a broader operating range, and unmatched reliability standards, ARIES N expands Trane’s portfolio with non-ozone-depleting and ultra-low global warming potential (GWP) R-290 refrigerant. The ARIES N range are now available across Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA), Australia, and New Zealand.
Trane is among the first to introduce chillers with scroll compressors into the R290 market segment above 150kW. The new ARIES N units offer cooling capacity up to 240 kW and are engineered to deliver leaving water temperatures from -12°C to +25°C, making them suitable for a wide range of uses, including critical applications like process cooling. The units were also designed to perform in extreme ambient conditions from -20°C to +48°C.
"Introducing the new ARIES N chillers to our portfolio, Trane integrates MTA’s expertise in highly efficient cooling systems and R290 refrigerant, following the acquisition of the Italian manufacturer in 2023. This also scales our manufacturing capabilities, allowing us to accelerate the deployment of new low-GWP solutions for our customers,” said Erik van Oossanen, product management leader for Trane Technologies in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. “With reliable performance at full and part loads, even at leaving temperatures as low as -12°C, as well as add-ons like partial heat recovery, the ARIES N supports our customers’ goals for energy optimization and carbon reduction.”
Key Features
• Unmatched Energy Efficiency: ARIES N delivers an average Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) above 3.4 at full load, Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 5 for comfort cooling, and average Seasonal Energy Performance Ratio for High Temperature (SEPR HT) of more than 6.4 for process applications.
• Wide Operating Range: ARIES delivers leaving water temperatures from -12°C to +25°C, with capability to operate in ambient temperatures down to -20°C and up to +48°C.
• Enhanced Safety: Designed with the proprietary SDS2E (Segregate / Detect / Stop / Signal / Extract) safety concept for secure operation with R290 refrigerant.
• Energy Optimisation: Partial heat recovery system recycles energy for improved thermal performance.
• Financial Benefits: Eligible for local energy efficiency grants and subsidies in many regions, improving return on investment and regulatory compliance.
Advanced Control and System Integration
The ARIES N range integrates seamlessly with building automation systems thanks to the Trane Symbio™ 800 controller. This application-specific and field-programmable controller supports industry-standard protocols such as BACnet IP and Modbus TCP, enhancing control and monitoring capabilities – supporting “future-ready” connected services, digital integration and management options.
Service and Support
Trane customers benefit from an extensive service network providing preventative maintenance, rapid-response technical support, and optimised lifecycle performance across various applications.
Sustainability in Action
The continuous improvement and expansion of Trane’s low-GWP offering aligns with Trane Technologies' commitment to sustainable innovation. Providing sustainable cooling and heating solutions is part of Trane’s and Trane Technologies’ overall approach to reducing carbon emissions in the industries and markets they serve.
