Challenge
At a Dutch facility of high-quality dairy products, a chiller failure in the middle of the day at the start of summer brought production to an immediate standstill.
The unit had been purchased second-hand and was already 25 years old. With production expanding, the dairy company had already ordered two brand-new Trane chillers as replacements, with delivery planned for after the summer. When the old machine failed permanently at the beginning of July, the timing could not have been worse. A fast emergency solution was essential to avoid wasting valuable raw materials and to protect the quality and continuity of production.
The head of technical service at the dairy plant: "Our 25-year-old Trane chiller had simply reached the end of its service life. In a situation like that, you have to move quickly.
Solution
Because Trane was already maintaining the old chiller, the dairy producer was quickly connected with Trane Rental. Trane Rental supplied two chillers, complete with hose packages, power cables, a generator for emergency power, and the necessary fuel supply. Trane Rental then immediately started the installation work and connected the temporary cooling solution to the existing system.
"Connecting everything to the system is a significant job, but it all went very smoothly. The Trane team is highly experienced in this kind of work. Production was up and running again very quickly. That really made all the difference."
Results
As soon as the temporary rental chiller plant reached the required temperature, the dairy plant was able to restart production, avoiding waste and ensuring high quality outputs.
The Trane rental units will remain in place until the two newly purchased Trane chillers are delivered. After just a few weeks, the emergency power supply was no longer needed, as sufficient capacity became available on the site’s electrical network.
