Challenge
A private hospital in Spain was seeking a backup solution during the hot summer months to ensure there would be no disruption to comfort cooling. The hospital was concerned that a chiller failure would severely disrupt operations and have a major impact on patients and staff wellbeing.
Solution
The hospital’s initial plan was to arrange a stand-by chiller with Trane Rental Services, simply as a contingency in case one of their old chillers broke down over the summer.
As part of their onsite assessment, the local Trane Rental Services team carried out a detailed study using its proprietary Trane Chiller Plant Analysis tool.
The team was able to demonstrate that replacing the hospital’s existing chillers with rental units would be a far more efficient solution, creating major energy and cost savings and leading to an immediate Return on Investment.
The facility manager thought that two rental chillers would be needed but the study also demonstrated that a single Sintesis Prime air-cooled chilller RTAF 245 HSS unit – one of the most efficient chillers on the market – would provide sufficient capacity.
Results
The customer is very satisfied with Trane Rental solution. The installed rental chiller RTAF is improving energy efficiency by more than 220%. It is projected that the Trane Rental installation will create total plant operating costs savings of €270,000 annually and reduce carbon emissions by 190 tonnes.
The initial rental period is for 18 months. At present, the old chillers are acting as a back-up should the cooling demand increase during hotter periods.
The hospital opted for an EaaSy rental contract. EaaSy stands for “Equipment-as-a-Service” and it’s a formula that provides a host of benefits. It ensures rental equipment is expertly maintained with 24/7 support from Trane’s extensive network of service engineers. It also ensures cooling supply can be restored as quickly as possible, either by repairing or replacing equipment.
