With F-Gas regulation, HFCs are gradually reduced – which has a huge impact on the availability and price of high Global Warming Potentia (GWP) refrigerants such as R134a. It has become vital for the industry and operators to make a timely transition to high efficiency refrigerants with a lower GWP – such as R1234ze, R1233zd, R513A, and R454B. Trane has developed a range of retrofit solutions suitable for current and earlier chiller models.
Chiller carbon footprint is directly linked to the refrigerant type used. For a refrigerant quantity between 60kg and 400kg, a refrigerant retrofit can represents a carbon footprint reduction of 44 tons to 325 tons of CO2.

Built-in heat exchangers must be compatible for operation with the new selected refrigerant and equipment performance maintained.
