Challenge
A large multinational manufacturer with offices and production plants throughout Europe was initially seeking a temporary, seasonal solution to provide cooling during the summer at one of their operation facilities in Poland.
The local Trane Rental Services team provided a rental rooftop which was connected to an existing installation and proved a very successful solution. We started working closely with the client to determine how Trane Rental options could provide them with additional support at other locations. The challenge was to ensure that rental solutions – combined with some permanent installations – met their requirements, kept their costs to a minimum and offered them flexibility.
Solution
We provided air handling at a new site where cooling for their production area had not yet been installed. Again, renting a rooftop unit – with some minor installation work – proved ideal.
The following year, the customer needed cooling in a production area sited deep inside a large warehouse. Working with a sub-contractor, we created a permanent installation with an extensive well-insulated steel duct across the roof to provide fresh air and cooling inside the production area. We also installed a fan inside the duct to cope with the pressure drop.
The solution provides year-round cooling. Even when the outside air temperature is 5°C-10°C degrees, the temperature inside the warehouse can be as high as 40°C degrees and the air is highly polluted. A standard air handling unit involving hoses would have been inappropriate for this site – both impractical and, ultimately, too costly. To minimize costs for the customer, we installed an Airfinity IH250 rooftop - the largest Airfinity XL – rather than providing two separate units.
Results
The customer now has the reassurance that their cooling requirements are met. Some of the rental units we have provided at other locations are now set to become permanent solutions and the customer will continue renting the IH250 rooftop going forward.
