From low-GWP to natural refrigerants

Our entire portfolio of units with scroll, screw and high-speed centrifugal compressors is designed for optimized operation with zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential), low-GWP (Global Warming Potential) and near-zero GWP refrigerants such as R1234ze, R1233zd, R513A, R514A, R515B, R454B and R290.

Quality, reliability and safety

All Trane's refrigerant circuits are optimized for any refrigerant and our advanced refrigerant leak detection and response technology, rigorous manufacturing, factory testing and servicing processes guarantee minimal risk of leakage. Trane service technicians are trained to safely handle equipment with any refrigerant, including those classified as A3L.

Due to their thermodynamic properties, refrigerants play a defining role in the performance level of HVAC equipment. They are also one of the wider contributors to Scope 3 carbon emissions and have historically carried high global warming potential (GWP), which is why they have garnered so much attention from the industry and regulators alike.

Transitioning from R410A

The imminent phase-down of R410A refrigerant requires all facility managers to carefully consider their future product specification, whether it's for new construction or retro-fit projects.

To accelerate the transition from R410A (GWP 2088) to more sustainable refrigerants, Trane already offers a full portfolio of HVAC products using R454B, a widely accepted refrigerant with a GWP of just 466.

R290, also known as propane, is a natural refrigerant with excellent thermodynamic properties which is rapidly gaining traction across the HVAC industry.
